Randolph C. Day, age 76, of Venice, FL, passed away on May 4, 2024. He was born in Flint, MI on July 7, 1947, to Clyde and Lois Day. Randy moved to Venice in 2006 from Millington, MI. A proud US Army Veteran, Randy served in Co. C 16th Engineers, 1st Armored Division, 173rd Airborne from 1966 -1969 in Vietnam. Randy received a Purple Heart for his service and was a Life Member of the DAV and VVA, and a member of the VFW. Randy worked in property management in Las Vegas for Winston Management, sold real estate, and did manual labor when he needed to provide for his family. The minute Randy returned from Vietnam, his focus was on assisting military veterans. He served as Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs of the State of Nevada. Randy worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get both Northern and Southern Nevada Veteran’s Cemeteries started and completed. He spent a great deal of time and effort on Legislative concerns to assist veterans who were always in his thoughts. Randy was able to get the VVA thrift store started to help fund veterans’ future needs. He had a vision of a Veterans home and worked hard on that although he did not see that to completion in his time in Nevada. Randy had many memorable sayings. So many were notable, in fact, that his daughter, Jessica, considered writing a book to include them all. Randy’s favorite was “It is what it is until it isn’t!”. Surviving family members include his wife, Toni, whom he married on September 17, 1978; daughter Jessica Bulko and her husband Mike; sisters Jean Lorence and Kathy Moore; and brother Danny Verran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lois Day; and brothers Jerry Gardner, Kenneth Gardner, and Dale Day. Randy’s outlook on life can be summed up with these phrases: He was thankful to God daily. He loved his family deeply. He had respect for our flag and country. He enjoyed the challenge of golf. He had no tolerance for idiots.
