Jerry A. Hommes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 10, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on October 22, 1939, in Muskegon, MI, Jerry was the youngest son of Andrew and Anna (Katt) Hommes. Jerry's journey through life was marked by curiosity and creativity. He spent most of his life in Michigan before eventually settling in Venice, FL in 2001. His passion for learning and exploration was evident from a young age. He was a talented coronet player, earning medals in solo and ensemble performances while graduating from East Muskegon Christian High School in 1958. In 1959, he embarked on a remarkable career at Reid Tool Supply Company in Muskegon, MI, where his hard work and determination propelled him from the warehouse to the role of sales manager. In 1982, he established the Grand Rapids division of Reid Tool, leaving an indelible mark on the company before retiring in 1999 after 40 years of dedicated service. Jerry's innate curiosity and love for tinkering led him to pursue various hobbies throughout his life. He built two homes for his family in Muskegon, and loved connecting with people across the country as a passionate Hamm Radio aficionado. Jerry was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed karate, racquetball, and cheering on his favorite Michigan teams. The basketball hoop he built at his family’s home attracted kids from across the neighborhood. Perhaps Jerry's greatest joy was found in the great outdoors. He cherished nothing more than camping along the shores of Lake Michigan and exploring the mountains of Gatlinburg, TN, with his loved ones by his side. A talented photographer, Jerry had a keen eye for capturing the beauty of nature, weddings, lighthouses, and cherished family moments through his lens, eventually starting his own photography business. Jerry's faith was an integral part of his life, and he served his church communities with devotion as a deacon, elder, and greeter. His commitment to his faith was matched only by his dedication to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be forever cherished by his wife, Lynne Hommes (and dog Tucker) of Venice, FL, his children Brian (Tanya) Hommes and their children Isabella, Carson, and Olivia (deceased) of Grand Rapids, MI, Debra (Bradley) Warren and their children Sophia and Oliver of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and John Hommes and his children Faith, Luke (deceased), Audrey and Jake of Grand Rapids, MI as well as his stepchildren Jennifer (Ryan) Howe, their children Easton and Camden of Grand Rapids, MI, and Matthew (Erin) Fleet and their son, Alden of Shawnee, KS. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Anna, and his brother, Robert Hommes. His memory will forever be held dear by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Grand Rapids, MI, later this summer, where family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate Jerry's remarkable life and the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
