Doris Bunting
1927 – 2024
Doris Bunting passed peacefully with family at her side on May 24th. She was born on January 18, 1927, in Hoxie, Kansas to Harley and Clara Morgan. Harley was a fiddler and worked for a gentleman farmer.
She was known for her sense of humor – kinda ornery. People described her as quiet, sweet, smart, considerate, and kind – never mean.
Doris graduated from Hoxie High School in 1944 and later traveled to Greeley looking for work opportunities where she met Chris Bunting. They were married on July 13, 1947.
Mom became a farm wife, Barnesville school cook, Postmaster at Gill Post Office, and tax associate at H&R Block. Later, she opened her own tax consulting business with Della Hernandez. Dad and Mom were members and/or officers of the Gill Lion's Club, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), the Rural Letter Carriers Association and Good Sams.
She believed in volunteering and gave time to our 4-H Clubs, Ladies Aid, and more. After dad passed, she volunteered at the Union Colony Civic Center, joined the Red Cross, managed volunteers and volunteered at the hospital (NCMC).
Mom left behind her kids – Terry, Darryl (Linda), Vicki Sheller (Don), and Bonnie Foos (Stan). We loved camping in the mountains and fishing. She played the piano while we sang Christmas carols and made delicious sweets for the holidays. She even kept 2 ornery sons-in-laws in line. She taught us to play pinochle, rummy, kings on the corners, Sorry, and to enjoy puzzles. She continued to play pinochle with friends, bingo and bean bag baseball into her later years. The family grew over the years to include 6 grand kids and 13 great grand kids. She loved her time with everyone, having holiday dinners, picnics, attending sports events, and birthday parties.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chris, her parents, brother Leo Morgan and sisters Esther Wetty, Edith Jamison, Lillian Frazey and Ella Ewer.
Her faith was important to her, and she was a member of the Osgood Church and United Women of Faith at the Greeley Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lion's Camp of Colorado, Pathways (Hospice) or Gideons.
