Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Ned Charles Stoll II, PhD., a man of God, of family, and of unwavering selfless service passed away on 15 May 2024 at the age of 78. His humility, resiliency, and dedication to others has impacted so many lives during his time on Earth through his service through Christ, the United States Army, Boy Scouts of America, the Universities of Phoenix and Maryland, the Colorado Springs public library, and the local Colorado Springs Veteran's Center. He truly devoted his time to God, to family, to our Country, and to our community. His exceptional service is an inspiration to us all.

Ned was born in Kansas in 1945, son of Ned Charles Stoll and Thelma Stoll. He loved being active and loved learning. Upon graduating Southeast high school in 1963, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology at Wichita State University while playing tennis. He graduated in 1968 and commissioned into the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. His education continued with a Master of Education degree in human resources through Boston University in 1975 while stationed in Germany. He successfully defended his dissertation for his Doctorate in Law at the University of Utah in 1970 as an Army Captain and ROTC instructor.

Ned selflessly served his country and his community. While stationed in Germany, he volunteered with the local German American community center and helped build relations between our service members and the local population. While serving throughout the United States, he dedicated himself to supporting the Boy Scouts of America and assisted with educating its members of Native American traditions while developing the skills of the next generation. Answering the call of duty, he deployed to Southeast Asian theater to command troops as a Tank Commander during the Vietnam War serving three combat tours from 1968 through 1972 and doing his utmost to protect those under him and around him throughout combat. And in Korea, after his retirement, he dedicated his free time to supporting his family through church programs like AWANA, Boy Scouts, ROTC, and many other activities.

During his 24 years of military service, he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was recognized with multiple commendations and accolades to include the Combat Infantry Badge, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Air Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge. He continued to be recognized for his efforts in his civilian capacity while serving the US Forces Korea Command as an outstanding volunteer, community leader, and team player with the US and Korean governments.

Ned was a leader; he was the example for his family, his friends, and his community. His commitment to family and service never stopped even after retiring. Ned is survived by his wife, Sook Stoll, his children Kelle, Ned, Kevin, John, six grandchildren, and his sister Suzanne. We will always remember his love, optimism, wisdom, and humor.

Ned will be laid to rest at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery, buried next to fellow veterans and comrades in arms.
