Ricky Dale Spence, of Williamstown, New Jersey, formerly of Emporia, Virginia, passed away on June 1st, 2024 after a long battle of cancer, he was 68.

 

Born to the late Horace and Peggy (nee Mangum) Spence on March 12, 1956, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Ricky is the cherished brother of Brenda Martin, Anne Eubanks, Steve Spence, Mike Spence, and the late Ginger Cox. Growing up, Ricky lived in Emporia, Virginia. At the age of 20, Ricky met the love of his life, his wife of 46 years, Bernice (nee Smuzinsky). The two met while working together, eventually moving to New Jersey to be closer to Bernice's family. They had a beautiful Church wedding at The Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cecil, New Jersey. The young couple planned for their future together full of adventure, love, and laughter. . They bought a home in Williamstown and loved spending time working to make it the home they envisioned for themselves. While being young homeowners, Ricky had to learn quickly how to handle home renovations. Ricky and Bernice would often find inspiration on their favorite show, "This Old House". When the two were not working on their home, they would go on drives throughout New Jersey enjoying the scenery or going to the shore.

 

Ricky is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. His hobbies include listening to music, working on model cars, painting, and taking care of the lawn.

 

He will be remembered fondly for his outgoing personality, gentle demeanor, and ability to put a smile on anyone's face.

 

Services will be held privately by the family.
