Fredrick Laurence Oneto, passed away on Saturday May 11, 2024, surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his home in Jackson CA. He was 96 years of age. Fred was born July 8, 1927, in Jackson CA to the late John and Juliet Oneto, also natives of Amador County. He was preceded in death by his only sibling Bob "Buck" Oneto.
Fred married the love of his life, Vera Estelle Swanson in 1949, in Reno Nevada. The couple soon welcomed their son, Ronald, in 1951, followed by their daughter Kathy, in 1952. Fred and Vera raised their children in Jackson, under the same roof where they eventually helped raise their grandchildren and now great grandchildren.
Fred attended Jackson High School, where he excelled at Football, earning a full ride scholarship to St. Mary's College. Once he was there, he made "the wise" decision to return home to marry and spend forever with his best friend and soul mate. He was spoiled with Vera's delicious home cooking and Apple pies. The two celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this past April. Fred was inducted into the Mustang-Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. Fred spent his adult years working at the Jackson Lumber Mill until he retired on his 62nd birthday in 1989.
After retirement, Fred and Vera loved to travel. They took many trips and cruises with great friends, creating lasting memories. He also dedicated his time to his beloved ranch. His work on the ranch was his passion. Seven Days a week you could find him working in a field, raising cattle, clearing brush, growing an extensive and quite famous vegetable garden, or tending to his immense apple orchard. Although the arguments could be heard far and wide, his greatest gift was getting to work cattle alongside his grandson John out on the ranch.
Fred is survived by his wife, Vera Estelle Oneto of Jackson, CA. son, Ronald, husband of Susan Oneto, of Jackson CA. daughter Kathy Prince and her husband Bin Prince of Lincoln, MT. He is also survived by grandchildren, John Oneto, Cheryl Clark, and Wyatt Clark of Ione CA, Brandi Oneto, wife of John Bohl of Sutter Creek CA. And great granddaughters, his "pretty girls" Bentley (6) and Brinkley (4) Bohl of Sutter Creek CA.
The family would like to add a special thanks to his "Thirsty Thursday" crew: Frank Halvorson, Fred Fletcher, Keith Davis, and Brian Drake for keeping him involved in the High school football program and the consistent visits right up until the end. The family would also like to thank Michelle Bianchi. She started as Fred's caretaker but will forever be a friend and part of the family.
Friends and Family are invited to attend a memorial service held at Daneri Mortuary, Saturday May 25, 2024, at 10:00AM. Following the ceremony a celebration of his life will be held at the Oneto Ranch, Home of Ron, and Sue. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.danerimortuary.com
