"Chicopee - Veronica (Smolen) Mazurowski, 88, of 42 Mt Carmel Ave, passed away on October 16, 2014 at her daughter's home. She was born on February 7, 1926 in Holyoke, MA, daughter of Joseph and Eleanor (Jedziniak) Smolen. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Jill and husband John Kubetin of S.Hadley. She also leaves a sister Victoria and her husband Gordon Williams of S.Hadley, brother-in-law Chester Mazurowski of Chicopee, and several nieces and nephews. Veronica was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Joseph Mazurowski in 2007, by brothers John and Stanley Smolen and sisters Genevieve Lemelin, Stella Hayward and Anna MacDonald. She was a long-time communicant at the former St. Mary's and Nativity Parishes in Chicopee. Veronica attended Mater Dolorosa grammer school and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1943. After graduation, she worked for many years as a bank teller at the First National Bank in Holyoke. During her lifetime, she was an avid book reader, and together with her husband enjoyed traveling, camping, bird watching and making jams, jellies and assorted candies for family members and friends.Services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley. Calling hours will be Monday, October 20, 2014 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. and Tuesday, October 21, 2014 from 10 to 11 am. Memorial contributions may be made to Baystate Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 50 Maple St., Springfield, MA 01102. "
