"Belchertown- Florence E. (Sochurek) May, 95, of Mill Hollow, passed away March 12, 2007 peacefully at home. Born March 19, 1911 in New York City, NY, she was the daughter to the late George and Genevieve (Anderson) Sochurek. Florence has lived in Belchertown since 1949, previously residing in Ludlow. For 34 years, Florence was a hairdresser at Belchertown State School and retired in 1979. She was a past member of the Belchertown Grange and currently part of the Belchertown Senior Center and the quilting class. Florence had a green thumb and enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. She also took part in art classes and loved wildlife and traveling along with being an avid reader. For over 25 years, Florence has looked forward to planting and selling Christmas trees with her family at May Farm on Rte 181 in Belchertown. Florence was predeceased by her husband Charles E. May in 1984, and is survived by her children Carol and her husband Gerald Trombly of Amherst, Joan Canning of CA, Florence and her husband Dexter Beals, Virginia and her husband Herbert Barrett, all of FL, and Charles and his wife Susan Gay of Belchertown. She also leaves two sisters, Ruth Langill of MD, and Mildred Haas of Agawam along with 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Florence was also predeceased by her sister Ella Feeney. Services were privately held and Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements. "
