"Thorndike - Alice W. (Maharne) Goddu , 87, of Summers St died on October 6, 2014 at Palmer Health Care Center. Born November 26, 1926 in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of John and Ernestine (Lewis) Maharne. Alice has lived in Palmer and the surrounding area for most of her life, previously residing in Springfield. Being a communicant of the former St. Anne's Church, she was also a member of the Ladies of St. Anne's. During her working career, she worked at Springfield Armory, Tambrands, Thorndike Mills, and for 20 years was the head baker at Palmer Schools. For many years, she cooked and served for Club 55. In 1999, she was predeceased by her husband Lionel. Alice will be missed by her son David and his wife Gloria Goddu of Thorndike, former daughter-in-law Dianne Goddu of Belchertown along with her siblings, George Maharne and wife Lois Anne of Holyoke, Shirley Clark of Windsor, CT, Agnes Smith and husband Bruce of NY, Ceile Maharne of FL, Carol Shannon of Springfield, and Mary Castagnaro of Springfield. Alice also leaves 2 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 1 great step grandson and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by her daughter Geraldine Goddu Freeman, 2 sisters, Natalie and Ernestine and 1 brother, John Maharne. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Beers & Story Palmer funeral home. Friends and family may gather between 9-9:15 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish with burial to follow at St. Anne's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes, Shriner's Hospital or Alzheimer's Association. "
