"Granby - Lydia I. ( Miller) Weston, 85, of Chicopee St., passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017. Born in Holyoke on October 26, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Beatrice (Chagnon) Miller. Lydia's beloved husband of 58 years, Howard L. "Zeke" Weston, Sr. passed away in 2007. Lydia worked as a supervisor at the former Belchertown State School for many years. While there, she met and inspired a resident, Ruth Sienkiewicz-Mercer, who was unable to move or speak, to communicate. This inspiration prompted Ms. Sienkiewicz-Mercer to dedicate her book, "I Raise My Eyes to Say Yes" to Lydia. Lydia loved and cared for many animals over her lifetime. Above all else, Lydia loved her family and the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Lydia will be sadly missed by her children, son Roderick "Joe" Weston and his wife Kathleen of Florence, and daughter Mary Lou Johnson of Belchertown; grandchildren, Tammy, Chipper, Joey, Becky, Derek, and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Eric, Tina-Marie, Alex, Bella, and Luke; and daughter-in-law Donna Weston of Granby. In addition to her husband, Lydia was predeceased by her son Howard L. "Chip" Weston, Jr., grandson Brian, and sister Nora Campbell. A calling hour will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. at the Beers and Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton Street, immediately followed by a service at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at West St. Cemetery in Granby. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly consider donating to the Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union St., Springfield, MA 01105.
