Elizabeth (Betty) Elaine Gabriel (nee: Seaman) died on July 9, 2015 in Falls Church, VA. Her beloved husband of 63 years, Edmund Gabriel, preceded her in death. Betty’s life centered around her family and faith. Although she was born in Brooklyn, New York, her family moved to Vermont and then to Massachusetts where she became a New Englander with an accent that would follow her to Florida, the Republic of Panama, Idaho, back to Florida and finally to Virginia. She leaves behind six children, 23 grandchildren, and 42 great- grandchildren. Her children include Philip (Kathleen) Gabriel of Orofino, ID; Susan Compton of Lewiston, ID; Stephen (Margaret) Gabriel of Falls Church, VA; Jane (William) Huff of Merritt Island, FL; Clifford (Karen Jones) Gabriel of Annapolis, MD; and Thomas (Melissa Nelson-) Gabriel of Pensacola, FL. She is survived by three loving sisters: Barbara Preble, Nancy Pitts, and Clare Gambino. Three sisters, Eleanor Ryan, Ruth Lyons, and Jacqueline Dauphinee, and one great-grandchild preceded her in death. She was an active member of Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Pensacola where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She also served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Alfa Center in Pensacola. One of her favorite things was to have her children and grandchildren visit her in Pensacola. She knew what special treats each one liked and would always have a batch of her whoopie pies ready for rapid consumption. She knitted 66 Christmas stockings, one for each of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Most importantly, she was a loving and understanding woman who celebrated the lives of those around her. Visitation will be at the Advent Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Saint James Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA. A memorial service will be held at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Pensacola, FL, on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 1:15 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery, in Pensacola, FL.
