"Belchertown - Thomas E. Sullivan, 66, of Ledgewood Cr., passed away September 6, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born July 9, 1948 in Hartford, CT, son of Gertrude (Ribard) Sabens of Farmington, CT and the late Charles Sabens. He was raised in Simsbury and Avon, Ct and has resided in Belchertown for 37 years. Tom proudly served his country in the US Marines during Vietnam, he also served in the US Air Force Reserves until his retirement. He was a sales engineer for Hartford Electric Supply Company. Recently Tom was honored to be the District Governor for the Mass Lions District 33Y and previously served as President for the Belchertown Lions Club. Driving and running the Eye Mobile was one of his favorite activities for the Lions. He was very active in the town of Belchertown, showing his lifelong love of music as a member of the Belchertown Community Band and as President of the Belchertown Band Parents Association. He also volunteered for the Rec. Department and coached Little League and basketball. He was a communicant of St. Francis Church and a member of the Mill Valley Golf Course. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joan (Viera) Sullivan of Belchertown, daughter Julie Nicoliello and husband Mario of Ware, and son Daniel Sullivan and wife Laura of Agawam. He will also be missed by brother Michael Sullivan and wife Christine of Burlington, CT, two sisters, Cynthia White and husband Thomas of Bristol, CT, and Georgette Gaul and husband Thomas of Granby, CT. He was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be especially missed by his four grandchildren Sarah and James Nicoliello and Patrick and Molly Sullivan. Family and friends may gather on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at 10:00 a.m at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, to follow to Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m at St. Francis Church. Interment will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 1:00 p.m. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Mass Lions Eye Research Fund c/o P.D.G. William T Murphy, Treasurer PO Box 6050 New Bedford, MA 02742.
