"Belchertown - Pauline C. (Rule) Johnson, 83, of Daniel Square passed away on February 13, 2011 in Cooley Dickinson Hospital. She was born November 21, 1927 in Leverett, daughter of Peter and Eva (Polchinski) Rule. After graduating from Amherst High School, Pauline married the love of her life, Warren Johnson from Hadley, and they traveled extensively throughout New England, New York and Pennsylvania from 1946-1962 for Warren's job, ultimately settling in Belchertown in 1963. Pauline held many positions for the town of Belchertown, including the assessor's office, her service on the Select Board, administrative secretary to the selectman, town accountant, tax collector, board of registrars, notary public, numerous school building committees and town clerk. She also worked for Judd Carhart and Elizabeth Scheibel, North Western District Attorney's Office, and served as President of the board of directors of WestMass Elder Care. She also served as an assessor in Ludlow. She was very active in, and served as the Worthy Matron, Deputy Grand Matron, and treasurer of the Order of Eastern Star, Mt. Vernon Chapter. Pauline was also a member of Amherst Rotary and taught assessor courses at the University of Massachusetts and Holyoke Comm. College. In 2010, she received the Citizen of the Year Award from the Town of Belchertown. In her leisure, she was an avid bingo and card player. The family apologizes for any omissions, PCJ was always very busy. She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Warren H. Johnson of Belchertown, two daughters Cathi Sabbagh and her husband Nabih of Windsor, CT, Clair Partridge of Belchertown and a son David Johnson and his wife Elizabeth of Granby. She also leaves two sisters Barbara Weagle and Helen Sullivan both of Hadley, two brothers Thomas Rule of Easthampton and Donald Rule of East Hartford, Ct, along with seven grandchildren Jessica, Stefan, Jill, Kristen, Meghan, Melissa and Amanda and five great grandchildren Dylan, Camron, Naiya, Nia and Jared. Pauline was preceded in death by a son-in-law David Partridge and a brother Peter Rule. Calling hours will be Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Shiner's Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or the American Heart Association 54C Wayside Ave., W. Springfield, MA 01089. "
