"Theodore ”Buster” G. Simmons, 93, of East St., died January 22, 2007 in Wingate of South Hadley Nursing Home, after a short illness. Born on December 31, 1913, in Central Valley, NY, he was the son of the late Theodore and Susan (Cole) Simmons. Mr. Simmons has lived in South Hadley, Massachusetts for the past three years. He was well known to people passing 19 East Street as he sat on the front lawn greeting all. He previously lived in Central Valley, New York, his birthplace. He was well known for his knowledge of the history of the Town of Woodbury having lived there for 90 years. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1932 through 1935, CCC Company 1250 Fort Slocum, New York. In 1978 he retired from Phillips Electronics where he worked for over 30 years. He was a member of several bowling leagues and active in sports in high school. In 1986 he was pre-deceased by his wife, Marie D. Neumann Simmons. He is survived by a son, Louis H. Simmons, and his wife Mary Anne Connery-Simmons of South Hadley, Massachusetts and a daughter Helen O’Reilly and her husband James, of Charlotte, North Carolina.. A grandson, Patrick O’Reilly, and a granddaughter, Carrie Hanoi, her husband Adam Hanoi and two great grandchildren Aidan and Evan Hamou, all of Bellmore, New York, will miss him very much. He was pre-deceased by seven brothers and sisters. Viewing hours will be on Thursday, January 25, 2007 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Beers and Story Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., South Hadley, MA. Funeral services will be at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home in Highland Mills, NY on Saturday January 27 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Cemetery of the Highlands, Highland Mills, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Springfield Rescue, 19 Bliss St., Springfield, MA 01105-2435"
