" Francis Patrick “Pat” Lund, 64, died January 5, 2007 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Ware December 5, 1942, he was the son of Jeanne D’Arc (Senecal) Lund of Belchertown and the late John J. Lund. Raised in Ware, he later moved to Belchertown where he has lived for 22 years. Pat was a US Navy Veteran who served during Vietnam. He worked for 26 years for the Department of Mental Retardation as a social worker and service coordinator for the Springfield Area office, retiring in 2002. He was very passionate and effective as a Union Steward with the S.E.I.U. and previously worked for Ludlow Specialty Papers as production manager. Pat was a communicant of St. Francis Church, a member of its Knights of Columbus for 30 years, a member of the American Legion in Ware, he served on the board of Conservation in Belchertown and was also very involved with the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Springfield. In his leisure, he enjoyed the outdoors, building stonewalls and woodworking. Besides his mother he will be deeply missed by his wife Lori M. (Opalenik) Lund, two children Shawn Lund and his wife Jasmine of Easthampton, Michelle Willard and her husband Rob of Spencer, two step-children Michael Staples and his wife Donna of Palmer and Sharon North-Odiorne and her fiancé Doug Raymond of Ware. He also leaves a brother John Lund and his wife RaeAnn of AZ, a sister Eileen Kology and her husband Thomas of Monson, 9 grandchildren, as well as many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be Wednesday at 9:15am from the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Church. Burial will follow in South Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4:00 –7:00 p.m. A pictorial tribute of his life will be shown during the calling hours.
