Hazel was born in Washington DC on July 18, 1945 to her late parents, John and Hailey Davenport.   She lost her birth mother at a very early age and was raised by her mother Blanche  Davenport.  Hazel  peacefully  departed  this  life  at  her  home  on  September  16,

2023.

 

 

She was born, raised and lived in Washington, DC until her death.  Good ole 1010 was her heart and home for the past 42 years.   She was always welcoming to so many and has adopted many into her family through the years.

 

She was educated in the Washington, DC public school system and graduated from Bal- lou Senior HIgh School.  She loved to say the very first full graduating class that went from

10th -12th grade.  She completed some college courses at DC Teachers College (now Uni- versity of DC).   She was employed in the Federal Government for her entire working ca- reer.  Starting as Fingerprint Specialist with the FBI and then moved on to the Department of  Defense  as  Program  Director  of  Equal  Employment  Opportunity  Commission.   After  a work injury, she “worked” from home raising and taking care of her family of two daugh- ters, Raquel and Waynett and tending to her husband Wayne.   That team of Hazel and Wayne were a dynamic duo…antiquing and road tripping up and down the east coast. Affectionately known as Blue, Slim, Sis and H.   She was a woman that carried many titles and  lived  life  intentionally.   Her  love  of  God  and  family  was  never  compromised.     Her heart  was  big  but  her  spirit  was  bigger.   She  was  a  role  model  for  all  those  who  knew her.   Undoubtedly, she stood her ground in different circumstances and was not afraid to express just how she felt.  She had a heart of gold and the mind of a genius.  She enjoyed fine dining and many collections of dolls, African art, purses, clothes and shoes.

 

She  leaves  to  cherish  her  memory,  two  devoted  daughters,  Raquel  Magruder  of  Fort Washington  and  Waynett  Wilson  of  Columbia,  MD.  Grandchildren,  Christopher  Wilson, Zyon  Magruder,  and  Elise  Magruder.  God-granddaughter  Corinna  Watkins.    She  had many adopted daughters that were super special to her.  Her surviving siblings, John Dav- enport(Frances),  and  Donald  Davenport.   There  are  a  host  of  relatives  and  friends  that were so very special to her, we would need pages of space to name each of you.  Hazel loved hard and to know her was truly to love her.  She would literally give you the clothes and jewelry off of her back.  It made her day to share whatever she had.  She always left a  piece  of  her  with  whoever  she  encountered,  either  at  home  or  on  one  of  her  excur- sions.   She was truly one in a million.  A void is definitely left in this world with her passing.

 

Hazel was preceded in her death by her Parents, Hailey Davenport, John Davenport and Blanche Davenport.   Two siblings preceded her in death, brother David Davenport and sister  Rockell  Martin.   Her  devoted  husband,  Wayne  Wilson  of  44  years  preceded  her  in death  in  2018.   Her  beloved  stepson,  Moniere  Rodriguez  (Reece)  also  preceded  her  in death.  They left such a hole in her heart and she missed them dearly every day.  It brings us some peace that she is back together with those that she lost and missed greatly each day
