"Belchertown, Evelyn L. (Powers) Whitcomb, 87, of N. Washington St. died peacefully on Wednesday, June 5 at home. Born in Amherst, April 20, 1926, she was the daughter of Edgar and Eva Mae (Keet) Powers. She grew up in Amherst, moving to Belchertown in 1958. In her working career, she worked for the former Belchertown State School and then retired from Belchertown Schools where she worked in the cafeteria. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 67 years, Harlan, along with her 3 children, Duane Whitcomb and his wife Carolyn of Belchertown, Stephen Whitcomb of Maryville, TN, and Janet Whitcomb of Norris, TN. She also leaves 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Besides spending time with her family, her leisure time was spent knitting and crocheting. Funeral services will be Monday, June 10 at 11:30 a.m. at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home followed by burial in N. Amherst Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. preceding the service.
