Joyce Geraldine Woodruff (Ripps) 93 of Seminole passed away December 8, 2012 at home with her son Michael at her side. Services will be 1PM Monday, December 10, 2012 at David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. Burial will be in Rockford IL. Born Joyce Geraldine Sanders in Freeport IL, Sept. 17, 1919 to Louis and Zelda Sanders. The oldest of three sisters, Lorraine Pritkin (deceased) and Cherie Raznick of Calabasas CA., Joyce attended Freeport Elementary School and Freeport High School and was confirmed at Temple Beth El in Rockford IL. After graduating from Frances Shimer Junior College in 1939, she planned to teach elementary school. But her plans changed when she met and married Jerome Woodruff in Sept. 1940 at Temple Beth El. Her only child, Michael Joel Woodruff, was born October 1943 in Freeport. Her grandson, Jay Lance was born March 1970 in Freeport and died of leukemia in 2009. Jerome and Joyce lived in Freeport full time until 1976 when they decided to spend winters closer to their grandson in St. Pete, FL. Eventually they relocated there and became active members of Temple Beth El. In her lifetime, Joyce traveled to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok and Israel. Her husband Jerome Woodruff died in 1982. She married Seymour Ripps in Nov. 1983. Sy passed away in 1999. Her generosity has been shared with Temple Beth El in St. Pete and Menorah Manor. Her many hobbies over the years included antique collecting, knitting and playing bridge. She is survived by many family and friends including her son Michael (CA), sister Cherie Raznick (CA), great grandchildren Natasha and Nicholas Woodruff and granddaughter-in-law, Tara Woodruff (PA) and many nieces and nephews.
