Virginia Olcott, 74, of Las Vegas, passed away quietly on October 14th, 2014, after a battle with lung disease. She was born July 27th, 1939 in Los Angeles to Frank and Ellen Wilson and the family soon moved to Boulder City where she spent most of her childhood. She graduated from Boulder City HS in 1957 and loved to go to the school reunions even until several years ago. She then attended college at Colorado State and was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. When she arrived back home she worked for Central Telephone Company (aka Centel, Sprint, and now CenturyLink) and until recently, enjoyed going to monthly reunion lunches with her work friends. Her father was a ham radio operator and encouraged her to receive her ham radio license, which she did in the early 60’s and kept the license active throughout her life. She then got married and took several years off in the mid 60’s and early 70’s to raise her only son, Todd and returned to work as an Executive Secretary for the next 20 yrs at Centel where she also worked with her late sister (Betty) while simultaneously owning and managing an interstate trucking company called Virginia Truck Lines Ltd. She retired from both after suffering a major stroke in 1993. She spent her retirement connecting with new friends and reconnecting with old ones and living life to the fullest extent possible. She was a member of several local garden clubs throughout her life and grew lots of flowers and vegetables, was a participant and judge at numerous flower shows in the valley and was a current member of the Las Vegas Flower Arrangers Guild when she passed. She won numerous awards for her flower arranging, even fairly recently. As many of you know, the stroke did not slow her down, only strengthened her. A special thank you to Dr. Samuel Wise whose personal interest in her case will never be forgotten. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Ellen Wilson and her sister Betty (Pat) Oresik. She is survived by her son, Todd Olcott of Henderson, and niece Renae (John) O’Reilly of Chesterfield VA. As you probably know, she loved her pets, and the first dog she had with her son was a beagle. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Southern Nevada Beagle Rescue. Services will be at Kraft- Sussman Funeral Servcies 3975 S Durango #104 Sunday October 26th at 3 pm with reception following immediately after.
