MADDEN, MaryEllen (“MEM” to her many friends) of Germantown, MD passed away September 3rd 2021 at the age of 62 from complications due to Covid-19, after surviving breast cancer. MaryEllen grew up in South Weymouth, MA, graduating from South Weymouth High School. She graduated in 1982 from Fitchburg State University, where she was a Delta Phi Delta sister, with a degree in Biology. After graduation she embarked on a four-decade career in the biotech field working in the Boston and southern Maryland areas. At the time of her passing she was working for the American Red Cross as a quality manager. MaryEllen lived a full and creative life: she was passionate about photography, always with a camera in her hands and a few pointers for her nephews. She loved adventure, travel, live music and independent musicians, her devotion for the Red Sox and Patriots always made her a number one fan. She was a talented storyteller who always brought people to laughter. She was also incredibly generous: long before MaryEllen started working for the Red Cross, she donated platelets several times per year, earning her an astounding “forty-gallon pin” and national recognition from the Red Cross. The joys of her life were her eleven nephews, who called her “Yay Yay” because they would yell “Yay Yay" every time she arrived. She never missed an important occasion, attending every graduation ceremony, wedding, and celebration. MaryEllen loved and was deeply loved by her close and extended families, including the Maddens, the Wyllies and her Navajo family. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Margie Prachniak of Connecticut, and by her parents, Charles and Nellie Madden of South Weymouth as well as her Uncle Walter Madden of Wollaston. She is survived by Charles W. Madden and his wife Susan of North Reading, Theresa Chambers and her husband Robert (CDR, USN, Ret.) of Carmel, CA, Elizabeth Zinke of Humarock, Kathleen White and her husband Jasper of Plymouth, Walter H. Madden and his wife Barbara of Weymouth, and eleven nephews: William, Robert, John, Daniel, John, Stephen, Ryan, Benjamin, Samuel (A1C, USAF), Noah, Jacob; and five grandnieces and nephews: Bentley, Zoey, Isabella, Eisley and Charles. There will be a private burial in the Madden family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury, Ma. A Remembrance service will be held at St Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, Hanover MA, Wednesday, October 13, 2021, 10am.
