Marjorie Brynes-Lampke
September 15th, 1942 - November 11th, 2023
Marjorie Brynes Lampke died peacefully in her home in Hilton Head Island, SC on November 11, 2023. She was 81. Born in New York, NY, Mrs. Lampke was the eldest child of the late Sam and Judith (Gellman) Alter. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Queens College in 1963, and a master’s degree from Columbia University Teacher’s College in 1965, both in New York, NY. After starting a family, Mrs. Lampke continued her studies at Rhode Island College, earning a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in School Psychology in 1985. She was a passionate educator and school psychologist and made a positive impact on the lives of children from Connecticut to Florida over her decades-long career working in school systems. Mrs. Lampke lived a full life and gave back to her community through extensive volunteerism with Women’s American ORT. She enjoyed her book clubs, international travel, Cajun music and dancing, and the company of her friends, family, and many pets. Later in life, she found peace and spiritual community amidst the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry in Bluffton, SC. Mrs. Lampke is survived by her husband of twenty-three years, James Lampke of Hilton Head Island, SC; her son Andrew Brynes of Baltimore, MD and his wife Kayla; her daughter Erica Brynes and her wife Gena Ninivaggio of Walnut Creek, CA; her sister Carolyn Alter of Placerville, CA; her stepson Jason Lampke and his wife Maria; her stepdaughter Vanessa Botheroyd and her husband Peter; grandchildren Sophie, Abigail, Max and Jensen; and step-grandchildren Wrenano, Thomas, Candela, Eva and Ivy. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry, 110 Malphrus Rd., Bluffton, SC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry, or to the Dr. Susan Love Foundation for Cancer Research (www.drsusanloveresearch.org).
