Althea Jean Jackson, 89, a beloved, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and cherished figure of Colorado Springs, Colorado, sadly left our world on June 5, 2024, after a life richly lived in service and kindness.
Althea was born on May 21, 1935, and raised in Van Alstyne, Texas by her loving mother, Ethel Whitley. She attended Fred Douglas High School and at the tender age of fourteen, after her mother passed away, she was instrumental in raising her three younger siblings. Shortly thereafter, she met and married the love of her life, Paul Jackson.
Althea was a devoted mother to four children, Charles R. Jackson, Paul W. Jackson, Jr., Ethel P. Jackson and Micah T. Jackson, her pride and joy. She always said her children changed her life for the better, and they felt that in the love and support she provided.
Althea took special joy in people and had fond memories of her friends and extended family through the DAV, church, family gatherings, or even in a restaurant or grocery store. She is known for helping the community and never meeting a stranger. Althea brought immeasurable joy and light into our lives with her kind heart, radiant smile, and boundless curiosity. The depth of love and happiness she shared will forever remain in our hearts.
Althea is preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Whitely; eight siblings; and two sons, Paul W. Jackson, Jr., and Micah T. Jackson.
She is survived by her husband Paul Jackson, Sr.; her children, Charles R. Jackson and Ethel P. Jackson; her sister Virginia S. Farris; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren, who will never forget the love she brought and continues to bring to their lives.
In remembrance, a gathering will take place on June 29, 2024, Colorado Freedom Church (6862 Galley Rd, Colorado Springs, CO 80915) at 10:00 AM and will be streamed live, where we will honor Althea’s enduring impact to our hearts and anyone she encountered from her community to across the globe. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Althea, donate to your favorite charity or to the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Pastor Scott Maxon, Colorado Freedom Church, The Springs Funeral Services, and Local DAV.
