Teresa Simmons

Teresa J. Simmons, 71, of Greeley died Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Bonell Community-Good Samaritan Society. Teresa was born June 17, 1948 in Omaha NE to Andy J. and Carla M. (Wright) Nielsen. She grew up in Nebraska, graduating from Fremont High School. She attended Wayne (NE) State College for a year and then moved to Lincoln, NE. On Dec. 20, 1969, she married Harold O. Simmons, Jr. at the First Methodist Church in Fremont. To this union, two children were born: daughter Lori and son Matthew. Teresa and Harold were later divorced. Teresa worked as a secretary in the education, legal, and business arenas. After her divorce, she moved to Omaha and attended Nebraska College of Business and completed a diploma in hotel & restaurant management. She worked in the hotel and restaurant industry and also, returned to the school as an instructor. In 2002, after becoming disabled, she moved to Greeley CO to be near family. Teresa attended the Salvation Army Church and worked part-time in their social services department. Teresa had a strong faith in God and as His servant, tried to help those around her when she saw a need. She loved music as well as creating ceramic pieces for family and friends. Most of all she cherished time with her children, family, and friends. Teresa is survived by her two children: Lori Simmons of Phoenix AZ and Matt Simmons, wife Demetra, and four beautiful grandchildren of Lincoln, NE. Additionally, she is survived by her three sisters: Jeri Burns of Rapid City, SD, Shelley Nielsen of Greeley CO, and Margo Cox of Grand Junction CO; and one brother, Mark Nielsen and wife Julie of Sioux Falls SD as well as 3 nieces, 7 nephews, and several cousins. Graveside services for family will be Friday, November 1 in Lincoln NE. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
