Vernetta Elizabeth Hall Harris Rodgers was born on October 25, 1933, to the union of Raymond Hall and Vernetta Hall Braham, in Baltimore,Maryland. Vernetta died peacefully at her home in Charlotte, NC on April 29,2023 at the age of 89. She received her formal education at Booker T Washington High and Douglas High School as an honor roll student in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended Carver vocational night school for sewing. Vernetta was a Avon representative for 20 years, self-employed, and went to Jules Beauty School for cosmetology. Vernetta worked as a domestic worker, nurses aide, cashier clerk, factory worker and Cosmetologist.She also taught herself many trades by reading books and asking questions; and became an expert at upholstery, cooking, making dresses, suits, and wedding gowns, coats ,decorating, putting up sheet rock, knocking down walls and installing hardwood floors, hanging wallpaper, caring for plants and growing vegetables. Her favorite color was purple and gold "royalty." Eventually she came to love all colors. Vernetta raised 8 beautiful children starting with no knowledge ,only hands on training. Later she acquired accurate knowledge through Bible study, attending meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses and the Bible based publications. Vernetta was baptized on August 25, 1964 and began regular pioneering on May 19, 1994. She learned about Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, and was taught many truths based on God‘s word, the Bible. She had strong faith in God‘s word, and the resurrection hope was really real to her. She taught her children about the resurrection hope as well as her family, friends, and neighbors. Even in her last days of life in the hospital, she preached to doctors, nurses, hospice employees, and many more. A hospice employee remarks: that's good you have strong faith. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, playing the piano, doing crossword puzzles, skating and swimming in her younger days. Vernetta Elizabeth Rodgers departed her life on Saturday, April 29, 2023. She leaves to cherish her memory ,Charlotte Lanura Vellines Wyatt (husband Bill), Joyce Vellines Ford, Corvetta Harris Taylor (husband James), William Harris Jr (wife Sylvia), Karen Darlene Harris Shaw (husband Theron), Michael Alex Harris, Stanley Bernard Harris, Kimberly Yvette Harris Malone (husband Bill). Grandchildren, Cherron Antoinette Crawford Jefferson, LaKeysha Shannielle Ford Alford, Cheryl Nicole Crawford Campbell, Shantel Denise Shaw Mason, Michelle Valerie Harris Blackwell, LaMyka Alese Harris Williams, Lolita Jamia Harris, Jenise Sharonette Taylor Spruill, Cherise Jaunette Taylor Brown, Tameria Sharnae Harris, and great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Vernetta leaves behind her siblings Shirley Hall Cooper, Romania Q. Braham Powell, Bobby R.L Braham Sr (wife Brenda), Janice L Braham, Donnie R Braham, Phillip Braham Sr (wife Linda).
