Roland Louis Halvorson, 81, a life-long resident of Cloquet, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 in Grand Itasca Hospital, Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was born in 1930 to Herman and Ollie Halvorson. Roland graduated from Cloquet High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Alameda, California for four years during the Korean War and received his honorable discharge in 1952. Roland was united in marriage to Patricia Swenson on October 3, 1953. He was employed as an electrician at Conwed Corporation and USG for 45 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet, Sons of Norway, and The Cloquet American Legion Post 262. Rol was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His favorite pastime was reading, fishing, and hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents. Roland is survived by a daughter, Petra (Tim) Botsford of Grand Rapids; two sons, Thomas (Cindy) of Cloquet and Jeffrey (Tia) of Grand Rapids; the mother of his children, Patricia Halvorson Nordskog of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren, Ryan and Carly Botsford, Robert, Jacob, Miranda and Kiira Joy Halvorson; four great grandchildren, Skyler and Wyatt Botsford, Jace and Logan Halvorson and two step-granddaughters, Katja and Guilia Piscitelli. The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Garden Court Chateau and Grand Itasca Hospital for the wonderful care their dad received. A special thank you to Pastor George Gilbertson for always being there. Memorial Services were held on Friday, May 20, 2011 in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 12th and Doddridge, Cloquet. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. .
