Sherman W. Johnson, 84, of Cloquet passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Waterview Estates in Two Harbors. Sherman was born on March 31, 1939 in Esko, Minnesota to Hugo and Norma Johnson. Sherman graduated from Esko High School and continued his education and attended UMD. Sherman married Gail on November 14, 1978. Sherman received Honorable discharge after serving diligently in Vietnam. He loved football and basketball. He and his team were the first to go to state for Esko School and achieving the Esko Hall of Fame. Sherman also enjoyed visiting and having coffee with family and friends. Some of his favorite past times were watching football, the weather channel, and a good beer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Warner (Maxine) Johnson; sister, Nancy Maslowski; and daughter, Teresa “Terri” Gunderson. Sherman is survived by his wife, Gail Johnson; sons, Jesse (Anna) Johnson, Dan (Kelly) Lundquist, Kevin (Imelda) Peters; daughters, Jodi (Todd) Monahan, Rhonda Peters (Lisa Mehle); grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister, Lorraine (Bill) Brunner; brother-in-law, Gerald Maslowski and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service, Friday, June 2, 2023 in Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. A luncheon will follow the service. Burial will be at New Calvary Cemetery following the luncheon. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet.
