Jane DiScenza DiCaprio, 78, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on December 25, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward and Lauwanna Grimshaw DiScenza. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1955. She earned an Associate's Degree from Fulton Montgomery Community College and a Bachelor's Degree from Empire State College. Mrs. DiCaprio was City Clerk for the City of Amsterdam from 1992 to 2007. Before serving in City government she worked at Bishop Scully High School and the Amsterdam YMCA. In addition, she was employed as Senior Leader at the former Mohasco Corp. in Amsterdam. After retirement, she was often seen helping in the kitchen at the family restaurant "Cappies". Jane was very active in the community. When her children were young she was involved with the Girl Scouts. She was also a member of the St. Mary's Hospital Women's Auxiliary. She held various positions for the Montgomery County Republican Committee and served on the Montgomery County Board of Elections. She married Joseph DiCaprio on April 13, 1958. He passed away on February 9, 2014. Jane enjoyed spending time with her husband and family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending the many sport & music activities that they participated in. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time in the kitchen. Jane is survived by her three loving daughters, Karen (Scott) McKelvey of Ashburn, VA; Donna (Craig) Durinick of Amsterdam, NY; and Patti (Tim) Carroll of Ballston Lake, NY; six cherished grandchildren: Brian and Kyle McKelvey, Morgan and CJ Durinick, Timmy and Emily Carroll. Jane is also survived by several sister-in-laws, a brother-in-law; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Edward "Bunny" DiScenza. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam, NY with Father O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. Prior to the Mass on Saturday, the family will receive relatives and friends in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of St. Mary's Church, 156 E Main Street, Amsterdam, NY from 8:45 A.M.-10:45 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jane's memory to Community Hospice, 246 Manny Corners Rd, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to NYOH Amsterdam Cancer Center, 1700 Riverfront Center, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
