Mr. James A. Meyring, 85, of Romeyn Avenue, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Friday, November 17, 2017 following a brief illness. Born in Dayton, Ohio on April 10, 1932 he was the son of the late Arthur and Freda Breymaier Meyring. Jay grew up in Dayton, Ohio and graduated in 1950 from Chaminade High School, and spent four years in the Trappist Monastery until 1955 when he enrolled in classes at Ohio State University, graduating in 1959 with a Bachelor's degree in Dairy Science. On September 12, 1959 he married the love of his life, Elizabeth "Betty" M. Tebbe Meyring. Jay loved tennis, church, and traveling around the world, a kind and affable man, Jay took the time to talk to everyone, and made friends easily. He spent much of his time volunteering for various organizations such as the Habitat for Humanity, Stephen Ministries, Eucharistic Ministries, and Prison Ministries. Jay enjoyed spending time with family and friends most of all. Survivors include his wife, Betty; seven children, James Franklin and his wife Rose of Latham, NY, Charles Meyring of Rotterdam, NY, Gregory Meyring of Gross Ile, MI, Patricia Fazio of Amsterdam, NY, Robert Meyring and his wife Shannon of Atlanta, GA, William Meyring and his wife Donna of Clifton Park, NY and Daniel Meyring and his wife Colette of Wake Forest, NC; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased in death by his brothers, Ronald and Bobby; and his twin sister, Patricia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 11:15a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Jeffrey L'Arche, M.S. as celebrant. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Mary's Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
