Gaetano "Guy" J. Cappuccio
April 8th, 1931 - August 26th, 2016
Mr. Gaetano J. "Guy" Cappuccio, 85, of Division Street, Amsterdam died peacefully Friday, August 26, 2016 at home with his loving family at his side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 8, 1931 a son of the late Giuseppi and Rose Tambasco Cappuccio. A lifelong area resident, Guy was a 1949 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mr. Cappuccio worked as a salesman for over 32 years at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Amsterdam. Before his insurance career he was employed at G.E. in Schenectady as a crane operator, Empire Devices in Amsterdam as a Machinist and the former Montgomery Ward Co. in Menands. On November 6, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mary R. Palombi Cappuccio. Together for over 60 years they shared a wonderful marriage. Mary recently passed away on July 7, 2016. Guy was devoted to his faith and was an active parishioner of the former St. Michael the Archangel Church and now Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He was an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society and St. Agnello Society. He served and volunteered in many different capacities. Guy enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He was very proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed carrying on his family traditions. He also was predeceased by his son, Dr. Joseph D. Cappuccio on February 28, 2009, and two siblings, Giuseppe and Giuseppina Cappuccio. Survivors include his sons, Guy (Valerie) Cappuccio and Michael (Lise) Cappuccio, all of Amsterdam, NY; one daughter in law, Kathy Cappuccio of Rochester, NY; four grandchildren, Daniel (Emily) Cappuccio, David (Kayla) Cappuccio, Eric Cappuccio and Kaylee Cappuccio; two great grandchildren, Joseph and Nora Cappuccio; In-laws, Alfred (Grace) Palombi and Jerry Palombi and Peter DeLuccia, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. A Prayer Service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10:15a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. Lawrence Decker as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Guy's memory may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church or to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam.
