Elda Forte, 98, of Amsterdam, New York, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024 at River Ridge Living Center, surrounded by her loving family. Elda was born on July 28, 1925 in San Jose de las Lajas, Cuba to the late Ramon and Francisca (Reyes) Montalvo. On January 30, 1947 Elda was united in marriage to the late Severino Forte. The couple shared 64 wonderful years together, until Severino’s passing in September of 2011. The couple lived in Cuba together until 1962 when she and Severino moved their family to the United States. Once the family settled in Amsterdam, Elda began working at Adirondack Knitting as a seamstress, where she would retire after working for 17 years. Even though Elda worked hard outside of her home, her greatest pride was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was especially proud to watch her great-granddaughters grow. Elda was a communicant of the Roman Catholic faith, and she attended St. Michael’s Church until its closing. Elda was known for her loving prayers. She prayed devoutly for everyone she loved. Elda is survived by her loving family, including her son, Louis R. (Sylvia) Forte of Corpus Christi, TX; her grandson, Timothy (Kelly) Forte of Amsterdam, NY; her great-granddaughters, Alexandra and Victoria Forte; her sister, Carmen Ortega; as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends. Aside from her parents, Ramon and Francisca, and her husband Severino, Elda is also preceded in passing by her siblings, Ramon Montalvo and Carmen Rodriguez. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, April 29, 2024 from noon until 1:00pm at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010. Funeral services will follow calling hours with the Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam, New York where she will be laid to rest with Severino. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
