It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Vernon Hunt on October 11, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on November 11, 1946, at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC. He was the son of Jewel Vernon Hunt (known as Joe) and Roberta Raynor Hunt (known as Penny).
Tom was deeply devoted to his friends and family, and he will be remembered for his intelligence, patience, and wise guidance. He graduated from DuVal High School in Lanham, MD, before marrying his high school sweetheart, Jonni Patricia Thorne. Shortly after their marriage, he was drafted into the United States Army and was decorated for his service in Vietnam.
Upon returning to Maryland, Tom built a loving family and a successful career in the painting industry. Together with friends and family, he established a thriving painting company based in Northern Virginia. His work included notable projects such as the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC.
Outside of work, Tom had a passion for life. He found joy in boating and catching Maryland blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay. He also took pride in maintaining his property in Virginia and escaping to the mountains of Wisp for skiing. He loved cars and enjoyed working on them, and later took to the road in an RV. A passionate fan of country and bluegrass music, he was an accomplished guitar player who cherished playing and singing with family at holiday gatherings.
Tom was a devoted partner to his soulmate Jonni for 60 years. He was a loving father to Donny and his wife Sarah, and Michael and his wife Penny. He was also a proud grandfather to Cora, Wyatt, and Delia, who brought him immense joy. Tom leaves behind his brother Barry and sisters Kathy, Gail, and Brenda. He was preceded in death by his brother Wayne.
A service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at his home, located at 999 Brocksmith, Palm Bay FL, on Saturday, October 19, at 2 PM. All are welcome to attend, and those unable to join in person are encouraged to share thoughts, photos, or stories via email at [email protected]. These will be cherished and shared during the ceremony.
Tom will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
