Christopher Charles Playford, 69, of Westchester, CA, passed away on January 9, 2023, in Little Company of Mary Hospital. He was born on June 30, 1953, in Los Angeles.

After graduating from Westchester High School in 1971, Christopher joined the U.S. Marine Corps, earning the rank of sergeant. He served in Vietnam and was later stationed in Hawaii. Among the awards he received were the Rifle Marksman Badge; National Defense Service Medal; and Good Conduct Medal. After being released from active duty on 12/11/74, he moved back to Los Angeles, took courses at California State Long Beach, and continued in the Reserves for a few years.

Christopher's lifelong advocacy of the military and strong interest in military history was always evident. He was a member of the American Legion and Fort Mac Arthur Military Museum in San Pedro and an avid collector of military memorabilia.

Recently retired from the City of Santa Monica Big Blue Bus after close to 30 years of service, he spent more than 45 years working in areas of shipping/freight/transportation/purchasing.

Christopher is preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Claudia Playford and Albert Phillip Playford. He is survived by his sons, Albert and Andrew; two brothers; two nephews; and other relatives.

Interment will be at Los Angeles National Cemetary. A memorial service with military honors is scheduled for February 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the cemetery.
