Brenda Jane McHattie
November 23, 1957 – March 27, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the McHattie, McConnell, and Dankert families announce the passing of our beloved mother, Brenda Jane McHattie. Brenda passed away on March 27, 2025, at the age of 67 in Tucson, Arizona, with her loyal companion and dog, Remi, by her side.
Brenda was born on November 23, 1957, in Tucson to Marilyn and Dean Moore, who now welcome her in heaven. She was the second of five sisters—Linda (Redman), Liz (Browne), Dana (Randall), and Susan (Aguirre). Born and raised in Tucson, Brenda attended Steele Elementary, Magee Middle School, and graduated from Sahuaro High School in the class of 1975.
She briefly left Arizona to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she became a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After two years in Oklahoma, Brenda returned to Tucson and began working at Learjet, where she met Jerry McHattie. They married in March 1982 at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. After having two children—Craig and Kelli—Jerry's job took the family to Whittier, California. There, they lived for several years and welcomed their third child, Kristy, before returning to Tucson to raise their three children. Christmases were filled with laughter, cousins, and love, creating lasting memories surrounded by family.
Although their marriage eventually came to an end, the love they shared never wavered. Brenda and Jerry remained devoted friends throughout their lives, always united by their deep respect for each other and a shared, unwavering love for their children.
Her love for her family was her foundation. She took great pride in her children and grandchildren, and they were truly the light of her life. Brenda’s heart was full of joy and pride in her grandchildren—Mason, Berkley, and Quinn—who brought her immeasurable happiness. Their laughter, their love, and their presence in her life were treasures she held dear. Brenda’s love extended beyond her immediate family; she took care of her sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and anyone in need. She gave selflessly, often helping in quiet, thoughtful ways—delivering flowers for her baby sister’s flower shop, Bloomies, or offering a warm meal or a place to stay. Her kindness was as steady as the Arizona sun.
Brenda was a no-fuss, nature-loving woman who cherished her time outdoors. Some of her fondest moments were spent walking along the wash near her home on Tanque Verde, taking in the peace and beauty of the desert landscape with Remi.
Her deep faith in Christ was a cornerstone of her life. Brenda’s relationship with God guided her through life’s challenges and joys, and her faith gave her the strength to face each day.
Brenda’s family will miss her deeply. While we mourn her absence, we find comfort in knowing that she is at peace, surrounded by the love of those who have gone before her, and is now with Christ in heaven. May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of our Savior, and reunited with loved ones. We pray that she is now walking freely in God’s embrace.
Brenda is survived by her children, Craig McHattie, Kelli McConnell (Brian), and Kristy Dankert (Chris); her beloved grandchildren, Mason, Berkley, and Quinn McConnell; her sisters Linda, Liz, Dana, and Susan; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who were blessed to have known her. A service will be held in remembrance on June 7th, 2025 at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church at 11am.
