Marguerite Julienne (O’Brien) Spielman of Colorado Springs, CO, died peacefully at home in her sleep on April 30, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William “Bill” Albert Spielman, formerly of Waterbury.

Marguerite was born at home, on June 21, 1933 in Southbridge MA, the daughter of the late Camille and Viola (Goguen) O’Brien. Growing up on Marcy Street, she went to Notre Dame School (elementary through high school), graduating valedictorian in 1951. She entered the convent in August 1951 at Nicolet, Province of Quebec, Canada, and left in February 1959, before taking her final vows. She trained for teaching while in the convent with the Sisters of the Assumption at locations in MA. CT. N.Y., and Quebec. She especially liked teaching piano & French. Marguerite met Bill of Los Angeles, Calif. through the Cory Club, a correspondence club for single & widowed Catholics in St. Anthony Messenger magazine in 1960. They married in 1963 and had three children, all born in Southern CA. She worked various short-term clerical jobs with the CA Highway Patrol (CHiPS), the local Jury Commissioners office, and an insurance agency.

After living in Southbridge for two years, the family moved to Waterbury, CT in 1973 where she volunteered and worked for Saints Peter & Paul parish. She retired in 1995 and continued to volunteer at the rectory & school until 2014. The year after Bill passed, she moved to Colorado Springs and lived her final years with her daughter and her family. Marge, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was a dedicated wife and mother as well as a devoted life-long Catholic. She had an infectious laugh and generous spirit and always strived to help others in need, whether by volunteering or by financial contributions to various charities. She was an avid fan of crossword puzzles and also playing Trivial Pursuit. Before her husband Bill's passing, they could play for hours on end and grew closer together by learning about the seemingly insignificant details of life. Marge leaves an indelible mark on those who knew and loved her, and she remains an inspiration to the loved ones that she leaves behind.

Left to honor her memory and legacy are her two sons; Gregory J. Spielman of Mentor, OH, John M. Spielman of Wallingford, CT, her daughter, Joanne Lantz and her husband, Mike, of Colorado Springs, CO. In addition, she leaves her 11 grandchildren, Jim, Kate, Rob, Zak, Maggie, Luke, Jack, Jake, Julianna, Matthew, and Caitlin, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her five siblings: Joseph, Marie Favreau, Theresa LeTendre, Thomas, and Roger O’Brien.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Spielman will be held on Monday, May 19th, 2025, at 10:30 am when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Leo the Great Church, 14 Bentwood Ave, Waterbury, CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with the Spielman family on Sunday, May 18, from 3:00 to 5:00pm at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 069705. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory of someone important to you with your family and friends.
