In Loving Memory

Ruth (Ruthie) Mary Proctor, 87, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Rotonda West, FL, surrounded by love.

She was born June 1, 1938, in Potsdam, NY, to Everett and Jessie LaClair.  After graduating from high school, Ruthie married Robert Proctor, a Vietnam-era veteran of the U.S. Army. Ruthie again found happiness with her wonderful friend Jerry Faught. A lifelong military supporter, Ruthie spent most of her life working with the American Legion, serving in various roles throughout the organization, culminating with her serving as National Membership Chairman in 2003-2004. In her leisure time, Ruthie enjoyed traveling. Her journeys stretched from Canada to Ireland with multiple cruises tucked in between. She also was frequently away on Legion business. Ruthie especially relished socializing with her many friends and neighbors—eating out, having fun and talking about how to better the community. As a long time member, of the American Legion Auxiliary, she was a mentor and inspiration to new members.  Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will live on through the many lives she touched.

Ruthie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Proctor, and brother, Paul LaClair.  She is survived by her two sisters, Gloria Holien of Tyler, TX and Bonnie Miller of Pensacola, FL, her partner, Jerry Faught, of Rotonda West, FL, her daughter Jennifer Proctor of Orlando, FL and grandson Jay Delgado of Leesburg, Fl, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruthie will be buried at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL, beside her husband, Robert Proctor.
