George Roy Roney
October 3rd, 1950 - June 5th, 2025
George “Roy” Roney was born Oct. 3rd, 1950 to George and Emma Roney in Chico, CA, and passed away peacefully at his home on June 5th, 2025.His education included Nord Elementary School,Bidwell Jr. High, and he graduated from Chico HighSchool in 1968. He then enrolled in Butte Jr. College and was a member of the first basketball team. In the Fall of ‘69 he traveled to Provo, Utah for schoo lat BYU. After 3 months there he was called to Fort Ord for basic training and service in the California National Guard. Farming and ranching was a part of his life from the young age of 9 when he rode on the family’s cattle drive from Pine Creek to 15 miles north of Westwood, CA. He showed steers and sheep at the Silver Dollar Fair as a 4-H and FFA Member. Roy was a hardworking and dedicated farmer proud to carry on his family legacy of farming since 1865. He married Donna MacDougall on Oct.7th, 1972 and together they farmed row crops, alfalfa, almonds and walnuts. Roy was heavily involved in his community and church. He was a founding member of Nord Country school and was instrumental in its development and served on the school board. He served on the Butte County Farm Service Agency and Sacramento River Reclamation District board. He was a life member in the Chico Elks, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and cherished his friendships in the Nord Supper Club. Roy was an active member of AA since March of 2001 and made an impact on many throughout his time in the fellowship. He enjoyed traveling, sports, and woodworking with his great great grandfather's barn wood. Roy was well-known for his words of wisdom and sayings, “Never climb a barbed wire fence naked!” His greatest joy was watching the family grow from his two most loved daughters “sweeties”, their spouses, and his grandchildren, whom to him are “The dessert of life”! He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna, daughters, Carrie (Ryan) Vanella of Chico, CA, Jenny (Dave) Fipp of Birmingham, MI, six grandchildren Carson, Ryley and Kate Vanella, Ashlee, Lilly and Tyler Fipp, his siblings Peggy (Tom) Arms, John (Sue) Roney and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.There will be a Vigil at Brusie Funeral Home on Tues. June 17th at 7pm. Memorial service will be held at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church on Wed. June 18th at 10am, followed by a graveside burial at Pine Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory in care of Brusie Funeral Home to the Nord Country School.“God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference"
