Jose Augustine Vigil of Greeley, Colorado, passed away peacefully, on June 13, 2025, with his family by his side.

Jose was born in San Pablo, Colorado to Adilia Cordova and Antonio Vigil on June 12, 1937. 

Upon his mother’s death Jose was raised by his grandfather.  After his grandfather’s death he lived with the Roybal family of San Luis, Colorado.  Jose moved to Greeley in 1956, where he married his forever love, Prescilla Vialpando, and raised their family.  Jose held many jobs during his time on earth.  A few of them own and managing a Sinclair gas station on 6th street and 8th avenue for several years.  He worked for the City of Greeley for many years.  Starting as a wash boy and working his way up the ladder to becoming Superintendent of his department.  He loved working with the church he attended.  He was an usher and held other positions in the church.  Always helping the church with projects that needed special attention. Jose also worked by his son Robert’s side, at Robert’s auto body shop for over 32 years, helping him fix and prepare cars for painting.  He enjoyed old model cars.  He especially loved restoring his prized “1955” Ford Crown Victoria, with his son Robert.  A car which won many trophies for best of show at several car shows. 

Jose loved hunting, fishing and using his hands to create whatever came to his mind.  He enjoyed watching YouTube videos of excavating machines digging up dirt.  Something his family never understood but knew it made dad/grandpa happy.  He enjoyed being outdoors.  His yard at home is a trophy in itself, as he spent hours working on it to make it a true garden.

Jose loved his family with every beat of his heart.  Never a cruel word or reprimand. It was always a loving word and wise advice.  His greatest love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Jose now enjoys walking the streets of gold with no pain, suffering or sadness, all while being in God’s presence.

Jose is survived by his wife Prescilla of 68 years; Children; Abie Vigil-Perez and husband Cayetano, Elizabeth Vigil, Robert Vigil and wife Joan, Ginger Vigil, Luis Vigil and wife Mikayla, Augustine Vigil.  Grandchildren; Partick Valencia, Jamie Medellin, Matthew Martinez, Daniel Vigil, Jonah Vigil, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Vigil and a large loving extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
