Susan Teresa LaPlante, 65, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025. She was born on May 24, 1960, in Memphis, Tennessee to John and Patricia Millington.
Susan graduated from Mecklenburg High School in 1978 and attended Queen’s College to study Nursing. She then became a Registered Nurse, working in Emergency, Psychiatric, and Disabled care, among others. True to form, Susan spent her entire life serving others, retiring from her 44-year nursing career on July 3rd, 2025.
Susan was a dedicated mother to her daughters Kathleen and Stephanie, and a long-time caregiver to her parents John and Patricia. Susan was an avid reader, gun enthusiast, and dog mom. Susan is predeceased by her father, John Millington, and her sister, Kathleen Millington. She is survived by her mother, Patricia Millington, her daughters, Kathleen Birkhimer and Stephanie Birkhimer, and her brother, John Millington Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Susan at 11am on Monday, July 14th, 2025, at Hankins and Whittington at 1111 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Psychiatric Nursing Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
