Jane Eve (Guidry) Herbert 88, a resident of Ocala, Florida, passed away on July 12, 2025. She was born on December 30, 1936, in Reserve, Louisiana.
Jane Herbert graduated from Destrehan High School in Destrehan, Louisiana in 1955, and married Earl Herbert in 1956. She and Earl (nicknamed “Butch”) raised four children: Susan Lynne (1957), Glenn Michael (1960), Pamela Jean (1961), and Jeffrey Alan (1963). Earl’s career relocated the family around the country, including stints in California, Missouri, Kansas, Arizona, Ohio, and Massachusetts. As her children became more independent, Jane worked as an executive secretary. In 1989, Jane and Earl, seeking a warmer climate, settled in Ocala, Florida. In Ocala, Jane continued her secretarial career at the Marion County office of State Attorney Brad King. She and Earl enjoyed spontaneous car trips and visiting with their grandchildren. After Earl’s passing in 1993, Jane’s friendships in Ocala became even more important to her. She enjoyed annual trips to Disney World with her friends, watching movies, and reading (John Grisham novels were her favorites). Jane was an avid fan of Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, and Andrea Bocelli, attending numerous concerts well into her later years. Jane was also a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and collected much Elvis memorabilia. She retired from the State Attorney’s office (reluctantly) at the age of the age of 83. At her final residence, Marion Woods retirement community in Ocala, Jane made many new friends and enjoyed decorating her cozy apartment there.
She is preceded in death by Percy Joseph Guidry, Gladys Rodriguez, Rose Zito, Elsie Stone, Edmae Martin, Cecile Tamburello, Cleve Guidry.
Jane is survived by her children and their families Susan (Steve), Glenn (Olivia), Pamela (Gordon), Jeffrey (Debi) and her sister, Josie Herbert of St. Petersburg, Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on July 17, 2025, at Blessed Trinity Church of Ocala with Fr. William Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, Florida.
Pallbearers: Gordon C. Saussy (husband of Jane’s daughter, Pamela), Julio Betancourt (Jane’s friend), Brian Richards (Jane’s grandson, son of Jane’s daughter Susan) and Brad Richards (Jane’s grandson, son of Jane’s daughter Susan).
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jane’s honor to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
