George Byrn Harris
May 22nd, 1940 - June 12th, 2025
George Byrn Harris, 85, of Colorado Springs, CO passed away on June 17th, 2025. He was born in Baltimore, MD on May 22, 1940 to Charles and Virginia Wells, and raised in Manhasset, NY. At the age of 25 George joined the Marines, and subsequently met his wife to be, Jeannette Carey, while serving in Key West, FL. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1970, where they raised a bustling family of four and provided a home and safe haven to many other young people.
George attended CU Boulder and University of Southern Colorado. He was an accomplished staff member of the Colorado Springs Health Department, the Antlers Doubletree Hotel, and multiple plant nurseries where he enjoyed sharing his extensive botanical knowledge. He was a member of the Colorado Cactus & Succulent Society and Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club, where he enjoyed dancing weekly. He was also a respected and acclaimed hunter, outdoorsman, gardener, and lover of nature.
George is survived by his daughters Laurel and Emily Harris (Daniel Mog), and sons Philip (Lori Kingsbury) and Ryan (Josh Nicholas) Harris; and 4 grandchildren.
He will be remembered with a service at the Stratmoor Hills Methodist Church on July 21st at 4pm.
