Peter Lloyd Fisher
October 12th, 1961 - July 24th, 2025
In Loving Memory
Peter Lloyd Fisher, 63, of West Columbia, SC, passed away on July 24, 2025. Born October 12, 1961, in Columbia, SC, Peter was the eldest son of Maxie and Frances Fisher.
He is survived by his loving children, Zachary Fisher and Katie Fisher Anderson (Jordan); stepmother, Betty Jane Shealy Fisher; brothers, Michael (Erin) and Jeffrey (Chrissy); and nieces and nephews, Miles (Kate), Chase (Sarah), Andrew (Iris), Hannah, Blake, Abigail, and Isabella. Known affectionately as “Poppy,” Pete was especially proud of his grandchildren, Margot and Ellis.
Pete was a devoted member of West Side Baptist Church in West Columbia, where he demonstrated his faith and service throughout his life. Whether mentoring youth as a Royal Ambassadors (RA) leader, guiding others in Bible study, participating in mission trips, or tackling church maintenance—such as repairing the steeple—Pete saw every task as an opportunity to serve both his church family and the Lord.
A graduate of Airport High School, Pete excelled in both baseball and basketball, lettering multiple years in both sports. His athletic talent led him to Baptist College in Charleston, SC, where he played collegiate baseball before transferring to the University of South Carolina. There, he joined the Gamecock baseball team and completed his B.S. in Engineering in 1984.
Over the years, Pete held various engineering roles while also contributing to the family business, Fisher Iron Works. Among his proudest professional accomplishments were helping construct the new USC Law School building in 2016 and playing a key role in restoring the historic Taylor House at USC in 2024. A lifelong learner, Pete returned to school later in life to earn a Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering in 2020—lightheartedly referring to himself as a “rocket scientist.” This followed years after earning his Private Pilot’s License, reinforcing his belief that no goal was out of reach if it sparked his interest.
Pete had a deep love for the game of handball and seized any opportunity to play. His passion for sports endured throughout his life—from umpiring baseball games to coaching and playing church softball.
Above all, Pete loved his family—especially his grandchildren. He often made the flight, or the nearly 12-hour drive, just to spend time with them and make sure they never missed their “ice cream quota.”
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at West Side Baptist Church, 2100 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29169. Visitation will take place the same day from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Family Life Center of West Side Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to the West Side Baptist Church Building Fund at: https://fcb.billeriq.com/ebpp/wsbc/Login/Index.
