Elizabeth (Betsy) Gayle Brown Brower

Kernersville, NC – Elizabeth (Betsy) Brower, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 31st, 2025, after a recent cancer diagnosis. She was born on December 15th, 1941, in Lynchburg, Virginia to the late Lawrence Theodore Brown and Effie Frances Lotts Brown.

Betsy was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Wright Brower, and brother-in-law William (Bill) Young.

She is survived by her sister Rebecca (Becky) Brown Young and 2 nieces and one nephew. She is also survived by her stepsons Brent (Sally) Brower, Gary (Liz) Brower and Dan Brower, and her daughters Donna (Greg) Bond, Joanne (Larry) Stafford and Dayna (Kyle) Gladden, 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Betsy was a retired nurse after 51 years working in various areas of medicine with an emphasis and love for pediatrics. In her younger years she pursued her interest in flying by not only receiving her pilot’s license but also becoming an instructor, a flying contest winner and becoming a Captain in the local Civil Air Patrol in Virginia. Throughout her adult life Betsy was consistently engaged in serving and ministering others through various roles in church, visiting those in need, and loving the children around her. One of Betsy’s greatest joys was feeding others. This is most notable by her friends and family in Kernersville through her sharing sourdough bread weekly and holiday pecan pies. She also looked forward to her monthly lunch dates with her friends.

Betsy was especially blessed to find a church family here in Kernersville. She spoke regularly of the special children she taught and the lasting friendships she made. Betsy also saw God’s hand in leading her to special people where she found beautiful friendships and kindness in the Trillium neighborhood. We are grateful for the love and service all these people have provided.

Services will be held Thursday, August 7th, 2025. The viewing will be from 11:00am to 11:45am, followed by the funeral service at 12:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8934 W Market Street, Colfax, NC 27235. Burial will be held in Asheville, NC on Friday August 8th, 2025, at 1:00pm at Lewis Memorial Park, 415 Beaverdam Road, Asheville, NC 28804.
