Patty Lou Roland
March 26th, 1933 - July 31st, 2025
Patty Lou Roland, 92, of Ontario, Oregon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her loving family.
Patty was born on March 26, 1933, in a ranch house in Formoso, Kansas, Jewell County, to Harry C. Young and Dorothy Mae Lippincott Young.
At the age of 12, Patty’s family moved from Kansas to Payette, Idaho, where they settled on Baker Lane. They later returned to Kansas for a time, but when Patty was 16, the family moved back to Idaho and lived on a farm north of Payette. She celebrated her 16th birthday in Hagerman and went on to graduate from Payette High School.
At 19, Patty married the love of her life, Theodore Lee Roland, on February 5, 1952. They shared more than 70 wonderful years together. The couple began their life on a dairy farm on the Oregon Slope, where they raised two beloved children, Rodney Lee and Diana Lynn.
In April 1953, Theodore was drafted into the U.S. Army, and together they were stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1955, they returned to Ontario, Oregon, to continue farming and running their dairy. Their adventures took them briefly to Groveland, California, in 1962, where Theodore worked in a diversion tunnel before returning home to Ontario in 1963 to continue their life on the farm.
Patty dedicated herself to caring for her family. She raised calves, tended a beautiful garden full of flowers, and worked as a cook at Pioneer School. She loved canning, fishing, and arrowhead hunting, and she was an exceptional cook—proudly passing her culinary skills on to her daughter.
She and Theodore shared a love of travel, enjoying cruises and visiting destinations such as Reno, Germany, New Zealand, Alaska, and many other places.
Patty is survived by her son Rodney Lee Roland; daughter Diana Lynn Roland Phillips; son-in-law Steve Dale Phillips; brothers Keith & Louis Young; sister Sharron Young Vaughn; grandchildren Justin Dale Phillips (Keelie Phillips) and Heather Lynn Phillips Bruffett (Mike Bruffett); and great-grandchildren Ryker Phillips, Brayden Johnson, and Evanjelynn Bruffett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Claude Young and Dorothy Mae Lippincott Young; her husband, Theodore Lee Roland; and her brothers, Donald Young and Max Young.
Patty will be remembered for her loving spirit, her devotion to family, and the warmth and care she poured into every part of her life.
The family would like to thank Ellie, Patty’s physical therapist, for her gentle and encouraging way of persuading Mom to do her exercises—unaware that Patty’s great-granddaughter was watching closely and later encouraging her by imitating Ellie’s style. We also give special recognition to Canyon Hospice, whose team went above and beyond in providing care, comfort, and compassion to Patty during the last months of her life.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Thomason Funeral Home 221 E. Court Street, Weiser, Idaho.
Graveside services will follow at noon at Riverside Cemetery, Payette, Idaho.

We Entrusted Patty Roland's Care To
Thomason Funeral Home
For more than 100 years, the Thomason Funeral Home has worked to help the Weiser community heal after loss. We help families plan funerals, cremation services, and celebration of life services. Our story began in 1910 when Lloyd Northam opened the doors at the site now occupied by the current Weiser Elk’s Lodge. Since then, the business has had several names, partnerships, and owners. Among them was Dale Thomason, our namesake, who began working at the funeral home in the mid-1940s and purchased the home as a family business to run with his son. At Thomason, we focus on helping your family with personalized care. We do everything we can to provide professional, compassionate support to every family that trusts us with their funeral arrangements. Along with our sister location in Ontario, Oregon, we help Treasure Valley families connect, honor, and remember their loved ones....
