Robert "Bob" Allen Schmid
January 4th, 1952 - August 1st, 2025
Robert "Bob" Schmid passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, in Viera, Florida. He was born on January 4, 1952, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Milo and Maxine Schmid. He grew up on a farm outside of Schuyler, Nebraska, and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1970. His career was in automotive service management, as he loved all kinds of cars and trucks.
On June 14, 1975, Bob married Sue Riggs and on June 14th of this year they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Stephanie, Katey, and Mike. Bob and Sue lived in Lincoln, Blair and Omaha, Nebraska, before moving to Viera, Florida in 2014.
Bob was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Viera where he was part of the Kitchen Ministry, Usher Ministry, and the Mopsters. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6125, and was a fourth degree knight.
Bob loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, watching the sunrise from the patio, and ice cream, especially peanut butter ice cream. In his retirement, Bob enjoyed creating and sharing laser cut wood creations. His handiwork can be found throughout the United States and in several other countries.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and sister, Patty Stary. Bob is survived by his wife, Sue; children: Stephanie (Zac) Lavicky, Katey Benne, and Mike Schmid: grandchildren: Alyssa Chamberlain, Jaden Schmid, Dayton Schmid, Bryanna Benne, Jackson Lavicky, and Brendan Lavicky. He also leaves behind his siblings: Deb (Rick) Mayhew and Jeff (Robin) Schmid; brothers-in-law Frank Stary and Jeff Riggs; sister-in-law Patti Riggs, as well as many over relatives and loved ones.
A rosary will be said for Bob at the grotto at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday, August 11, at 7:00 p.m. Bob's funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 12, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to The Children's Hunger Project of Brevard County.
