It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Hoover on August 7, 2025, at the age of 95. Catherine was born on March 26, 1930, in Stillwater, OK, to Frank and Pauline Durbin as their only child.Catherine graduated from Stillwater High School in Stillwater, OK, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Future Homemakers of America. She was the salutatorian of her class. She furthered her education and graduated from Oklahoma A&M University (now Oklahoma State University) with a B.A. in Art and a minor in Home Economics. At A&M, she was a member of Mortar Board, Sigma Alpha Sigma, and Phi Kappa Phi honorary societies, and her social sorority was Kappa Delta. These experiences, combined with her upbringing as the child of two accomplished scholars, formed the foundation for a lifelong curiosity and passion for learning and exploring the world.After graduating from college, Catherine worked in the secretarial pool for Stanolind Oil & Gas (Amoco), where she met the love of her life and beloved husband of 40 years, Leon Hoover. Catherine was known for her consideration of others, her fairness, endless curiosity, creativity, and love and support for her family and community. Along with her husband, she was a devout member of First Methodist Church in Fort Worth, TX; New Haven Methodist/Aldersgate Methodist/Hope Methodist in Tulsa, OK; and later, Smoky Hill United Methodist Church in Centennial, CO.Catherine loved to travel and visited many countries with friends and family. She was an avid reader, amateur photographer, and creative artist. She loved music, played the piano, and was a member of the church bell choir. She contributed to the community as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader and by leading numerous Sunday School classes and groups.She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pauline Durbin, and her husband, Leon Hoover.She is survived by her son Derek Hoover; daughter Alexa Wendling; daughter-in-law Annette Hoover; and grandchildren Mallory Hoover and Stephanie Coleman.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the American Heart Association in Catherine's name at https://www.heart.org/.Funeral services are under the direction of Ponderosa Valley Funeral Services, 10470 S Progress Way, Parker, CO 80134, on Wednesday, August 13th at 4:00 PM, with viewing at 3:00 PM. Catherine's final resting place will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5111 S Memorial Dr, Tulsa, OK 74145, next to her husband, Leon.
