Charles A. Fontaine, 92, of Apopka, Florida passed away on August 9th, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Big Rapids, Michigan, to Charles G. and Marion (Reed) Fontaine, he graduated from Ashley High School, Ashley Michigan in 1952 and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served proudly for 20 years including during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1972.

 

Following his military service, Charles studied Hospitality management and spend two decades managing hotels in Florida, New Jersey and New York.

 

He married Geraldine Paradis in 1956 and they had 4 sons. In 1974, Charles married Earline Parrish with whom he shared one son and two daughters.

 

Charles is survived by four children, Chris A. (Cheri) Fontaine of Virginia, Howard A. Hutcheson of Florida, Angi (Dennis) Bell of Tennessee, and Franchesca (Jeff) Haig of Florida and daughter-in-law Debbie Fontaine of Illinois. He is also survived by two sisters, Joan Van Fleteren of Tennessee and Coralee (Brock) Evans of Michigan. He had 7 grandchildren, Minga (Chris Holloway) Fontaine, Brad (Sarah) Spurgeon, Nicole (Graham) Newell, Mackenzie Fontaine, Anthony Fontaine-Negron, Autumn Haig and Alexander Haig. Charles had 9 great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sons James Fontaine and John Fontaine, son Michael Charles Fontaine, sister Patricia Gorman and wife Earline Fontaine.

 

Services will be held on August, 25th, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Grace Pointe Church in Apopka, FL. Burial with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 1:00 PM with a visitation supper at Charles’s home at 4:00 PM. The family is requesting that veterans wear clothing, hats or pins indicating their branch of service.

 

Memorial contributions can be made to Shriners Hospital or Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
