Our mother, Marie Duemler died peacefully on August 7, 2025. This is the story of her life.

She was born August 31, 1929 in Gloversville. She was raised there by her parents, Celia and Edwin McLean. She was an only child-and she was sorry she did not have any siblings. She attended school in Gloversville. When she was in high school, she worked in an ice cream shop in Johnstown. That is where she met our father, Ted Bowler. After high school she attended and graduated from Mildred Elley Secretarial School in 1948. She married our father shortly after that and moved to Tribes Hill. She worked in his TV store, but also had a career as a legal secretary. She was very proud of her career, and she worked for many years for the Attorney William Stewart.

Her marriage to Ted Bowler ended in the early 1960s, and a few years later she met and married Ben Strevy. She had a happy marriage to him, and they enjoyed entertaining, traveling and remodeling a large Victorian house in Tribes Hill. She also became part of the Strevy clan-and she finally had some ‘sisters’. She was very close with Ben’s sisters, Janet and Norma. Ben died suddenly in 1974.

It was after that when she met Eric Duemler. Her family grew again when she married Eric in 1976. She had a new stepdaughter, Carole Duemler Dandino (deceased 2004), and granddaughter Tracey and grandson Brett. She also had a new stepson, Robert Duemler and his wife Judith, with new grandchildren and great grandchildren: grandson Eric, wife Kim and their daughter Autumn, granddaughter Christine Munn, husband Tim and their sons Robert (wife Greta) and Carson, grandson Mathew, wife Emily and their children Harper and Lucas. Our mother enjoyed her home in Bonita Springs, Florida with Eric, and worked in his mobile home businesses with him. Eric passed away in 2003.

Later in her life our mother moved to the Wallins Corners condominiums in Amsterdam. She enjoyed having friends and family close by and participated in many social groups and senior activities. She also regularly attended Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church. In 2021 she moved into Hillcrest Springs Assisted Living. She came to think of it as her home. We are thankful for the kindness and good care she received from the staff there.

Our mother lived the life she wanted, and she enjoyed many activities. She loved to read, was interested in antiques (especially quilts), and loved to travel, socialize and go out to eat. She also loved to shop-especially with her daughter-in-law Judy. She has closets full of clothing that are proof of this. She also loved chocolate milk shakes and ice cream. We would like to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice. They made her final days as comfortable as possible and made sure she had as much chocolate ice cream as she wanted.

In addition to the above listed, Marie is also survived by her 2 daughters, Kim Bowler, husband George, and son Cody, and Chris Schneider, husband Klaus, son Maximilian (wife Katie) and daughter Amelia (partner Jordan).

A gathering to remember Marie will be held at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, Amsterdam, on Saturday September 6 at 10am. A memorial service will follow at noon in the same location.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville.
