Riverside Funeral Home - Albuquerque
Joel "Xavier" Robinson
January 8th, 1970 - July 30th, 2025
Joel Robinson was born on January 8, 1970, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and entered his eternal rest on July 30, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He is survived by his mothers Carmen Josey and Nora Robinson. He is remembered by his siblings; Juliana Josey, Danielle Lints, Morris Robinson Jr., Ladonna Josey, and Jamar Josey. Joel’s legacy continues through his children: Marquis Xavier Martinez, Breanna Gallegos-Robinson y Schnedar, Damon Xavier Robinson, Devin James Robinson, Mateo Estevan Garcia, Mekhi Xavier Robinson, and Anise Marie Robinson. He is preceded in death by his father Morris Robinson Sr., brothers Dale Robinson and Jeffrey Josey, and daughter Xandria Janae Gomez. He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Over the course of his 55 years, Joel lived a life that was anything but ordinary. He was shaped by the people and places that marked his journey, from Colorado to New Mexico, Virginia to the Virgin Islands, he collected stories, experiences, and names along the way. Depending on how you knew him, you might have called him Xavier, X, Brooklyn Dominicano, Iko ("I Knock Out"), or Pirate. Each name reflecting a different piece of his multi-faceted personality.
Joel had a larger-than-life presence. His faith in God was unshakable, he prayed several times a day and never sat down for a meal without first giving thanks. His relationship with Jesus was foundational and now, we take comfort knowing he has been welcomed into God’s arms with love and peace. As he recently shared on his Facebook page, a verse that brought him comfort now brings solace to us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Matthew 11:28
Joel’s passions were as diverse as his talents. He loved playing pickup sports, hitting the driving range, watching games (and yelling at the screen), and firing up a game of Madden. When it came to style, Joel never missed, his pants were always perfectly ironed, his clothes & jewelry were sharp, and his many shoes were always fresh. Whether he was stepping out or just going about his day, he made sure he looked fly, always driving a vehicle that turned heads. But Joel wasn’t just athletic or stylish, he was smart, inquisitive, and adventurous. He could nerd out on a National Geographic special, talk culture, and had a deep appreciation for learning. He loved dogs, music, all things New York, and road trips. He spent time as a semi-pro football player, a rapper, and a coach to youth. And no matter what he was doing, Joel carried himself with confidence and pride.
Above all, those who knew Joel will remember him for his smile, his big personality, his storytelling (with embellishments), passion, protective nature, charm, and his faith in Jesus Christ. He leaves behind a legacy reminding us to live life with passion, pride, and unwavering love for God.
A Celebration of Life service for Joel will be held on August 22nd at 2:00 PM MT at Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
