Monnie Gayle Barnes 85, widow of Jerry Barnes, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in Lexington, KY. She has joined her husband, Jerry Barnes, her son, Anthony Todd Barnes, and infant son, Jerry Douglas Barnes. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Larry, and Jerry King.
She was born in Cynthiana, KY, on July 10, 1940, to the late Stephen King and Eloise Rankin Franklin.
She is survived by her son, Tim (Debbie) Barnes, Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Timothy (Bonnie) Barnes, Minta Gayle (Anthony) Wheeler, Hunter (Ashley) Barnes, and Heather (Travis) Toy; great-grandchildren, Stetson Toy, Truman Toy, Anniston Louise Barnes and Braelyn Robinson. Also survived by John (Julie) Harkins who was like a son to her.
Monnie was an eternal optimist who loved every person and every animal she met.
She would wear her Bubba teeth to greet you at the door! She was the Fun Aunt and Mamaw who was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Life gathering of family and friends will be from 5 pm to 6 pm Friday August 15, 2025 at First Christian Church, Lexington, KY, followed by a service at 6 pm officiated by Greg Herriford.
