Janea, 59, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, passed away on August 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and faith that touched all who knew her. Born May 13, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Fred Canaday and Roberta Luann Abney, Janea brought light and joy into every room she entered. Janea lived a life marked by compassion, artistic expression, and an unwavering devotion to The Lord. She had a gift for seeing beauty in the world and sharing it with others, whether through her vibrant art or the simple kindness she extended to friends, family, and strangers alike. She loved the color purple, had a soft spot for dachshunds, and found great joy in creating art pieces that reflected her bright spirit. In recent years, Janea pursued her dream of higher education, working toward her Associate of Arts in Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico (UMM) Valencia Campus. She also gave her time generously to the PASOS Resource Center at UNM Valencia, where she worked tirelessly to share their mission of upholding values of equality, access, and inclusion with her own sense of warmth and encouragement uplifting all those she worked with. Janea’s life was defined by the love she poured into her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Roy Freitag; her daughters, Paula Freitag and Lori Troupe; her son-in-law, Nick Troupe; and her cherished granddaughter, Lola Troupe. She is also survived by her loving mother, Roberta Luann Abney; siblings Jay Canaday, Jaclyn Zanoni, Leslie Houston, Steve Abney, Bruce Abney, Jeff Abney, Dee Abney, Dottie Utter, Chad Vander Linden, and Jennifer Simms; and her beloved nephews Timothy Goering and Joshua Goering. Janea also has numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces/nephews. To all those not mentioned by name, please know you were deeply loved. She is preceded in death by her precious grandchildren Zack Troupe and Odette Troupe; her father, Fred Canaday; her brother, Doug Abney; her grandparents Wilson “Butch” Canaday, Polly Canaday, Florence Frazier, and Claude Smith. Janea’s brightness will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched, with her faith, her laughter, and her unwavering love.
